Lukan
Releases New Law Information

Rep. Steve Lukan (R-New Vienna) has released information on notable
bills approved in 2008 that will go into effect on July 1.
“There was quite a bit of legislation passed in 2008 that will
have bring new changes beginning July 1” said Rep. Lukan. “I look
forward to talking with constituents over the summer and in the future
to get their input on these laws as well as ideas for new laws.”
According to Rep. Lukan, the following is a brief list of bills that
will go into effect on July 1:
House File 2212 enacts a major revision to Iowa’s smoking laws.
The bill implements a ban on smoking in most public places and places
of employment.
House File 2539 enacts a series of reforms to improve access to health
care in Iowa. The major provisions deal with the expansion of
Iowa’s HAWK-I program, revisions to health insurance regulations, the
development of electronic health records, and other wellness-related
ideas.
Senate File 2277 creates a security freeze procedure for Iowans who
have their identity stolen. The bill allows Iowans to request
consumer reporting agencies to establish a security freeze on their
name and identifying information.
House File 2359 is Veterans Trust Fund bill which makes permanent $5
million balance requirement before the Veterans Trust Fund interest may
be spent.
